Marbleizing is the art of creating a painted imitation of actual marble.

Close observation of the natural world ensures the creation of a successful illusion. This technique is often used on fireplaces, moldings, columns and even on floors. It is most convincing when used in places that might have been made of real marble.

Marbleizing has been done since Pharonic times. It was continued to be used through the Greek and Roman Empires, reaching the height of popularity in Venetian villas, the palace of Versailles and later in Victorian England.

It continues to be one of the most popular painted finishes to individualize an environment.
